Dentures For Comfort & Confidence

Whether you’re missing a few teeth or a whole arch, well-made dentures can help you eat, speak and smile with confidence again. At Highview Dental Practice in Sedgley, Dudley, we offer full and partial dentures in a range of materials, from acrylic to chrome cobalt and flexible Valplast, made to fit comfortably and look natural.

Why consider dentures?

Missing teeth can make eating and speaking more difficult, and gaps can allow your remaining teeth to move. Over time, losing teeth can also change the shape of your face. Dentures fill those gaps, support your lips and cheeks and help you enjoy your food again - and modern dentures can look far more natural than many people expect.

  • Full and partial options
  • Eat and speak comfortably
  • Natural-looking replacement teeth

What happens when you have dentures made?

  1. 01

    Consultation

Your dentist will examine your mouth, check the health of any remaining teeth and gums, and talk through the types of denture that would suit you and your budget.

  2. 02

    Impressions & bite records

We take impressions or scans of your mouth and record how your jaws bite together, then help you choose the shade, size and shape of your new teeth.

  3. 03

    Try-in

Before your dentures are finished, you can usually try in a wax version so we can check the fit, bite and appearance and make any changes you’d like.

  4. 04

    Fitting & review

Your finished dentures are fitted and adjusted for comfort. We’ll explain how to care for them and see you again to make any final tweaks once you’ve worn them.

What types of dentures are there?

Your dentist will recommend the best option for your mouth, but the main types are:

  • Full (complete) dentures - replace all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw and are held in place by suction and the shape of your gums.
  • Partial acrylic dentures - a gum-coloured base carrying one or more teeth, usually held in place with small clasps around your natural teeth.
  • Chrome cobalt dentures - a thin, strong metal framework that is often less bulky than acrylic, making it a popular choice for partial dentures.
  • Valplast flexible dentures - made from a flexible, gum-coloured material that avoids visible metal clasps, for a more discreet partial denture.

Will new dentures feel strange?

Getting used to your dentures

It’s normal for new dentures to feel a little bulky or loose for the first few weeks while your mouth, tongue and cheek muscles adapt. You may produce more saliva than usual or notice a few sore spots - we can make small adjustments to ease these.

Start with soft foods cut into small pieces and try to chew on both sides at once. Reading aloud can help your speech settle more quickly. If anything still feels uncomfortable, please call us rather than putting up with it.

How do I look after my dentures?

Clean your dentures every day with a soft brush and a denture cleaner rather than ordinary toothpaste, which can scratch, and rinse them after meals. Take them out at night unless your dentist advises otherwise, and keep them in water or a cleaning solution so they don’t dry out.

Keep up regular check-ups even if you have no natural teeth, so we can check your gums and the fit of your dentures and look for any signs of mouth cancer. Your gums and jawbone gradually change shape, so dentures may need adjusting, relining or replacing over time. We also offer professional denture cleaning, repairs and additions to existing dentures.

FAQs

Dentures FAQs

Can I have dentures on the NHS?

Dentures are included in NHS Band 3 treatment (£332.10) where clinically needed. NHS availability varies, so please call us on 01902 675 801 to check. Private dentures offer a wider choice of materials, such as chrome cobalt and Valplast.

How many appointments will I need?

Most dentures need several visits - usually for impressions, bite records, a try-in and the fit - followed by a review. Your dentist will give you a clear plan at your consultation.

How long do dentures last?

With good care, dentures often last several years. Because your mouth changes shape over time, they may need relining or replacing to keep fitting well, and regular check-ups help us keep an eye on this.

Can my denture be repaired?

Often, yes. We can repair broken dentures and add teeth to an existing denture if you lose another tooth. Please call us and your dentist will advise whether a repair or a new denture is the better option.

Should I sleep in my dentures?

Most people are advised to take their dentures out at night to give the gums a rest and help keep the mouth healthy. Your dentist will let you know if they recommend something different for you.

Can implants help hold my dentures in place?

If your dentures feel loose, implants can sometimes be used to support and stabilise them. Your dentist can assess whether this might suit you and explain what would be involved.
